Qasida Muhammadiya (ﷺ)

The Muhammadan Ode, or Qasida Muhammadiya (ﷺ), is a remarkable illustration of both verbal elegance and sincere devotion. Imam Busiri, the same poet who created the well-known “Qasida Burda,” or the Poem of the Cloak, penned it. The fact that this poem is written in a fairly formal verse format does not diminish its sincerity.

Each verse gave the Prophet praise in a distinctive yet uniform manner. Every stanza starts with the name “Muhammad ﷺ” and goes on to extol his many attributes. The term that follows the name starts with the first Arabic letter. The remainder of the poem follows a similar pattern, starting with the Prophet’s blessed name before moving on to the subsequent letter of the Arabic alphabet.
